The Miami County K-68 Expansion Project spans 6.68 miles of K-68 from US-169 to Spring Valley Road (just west of US-69 near Louisburg). It is one of the seven announced Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program (IKE) Modernization / Expansion Projects in the Development Pipeline for KDOT District 4 (Southeast Kansas). The project team is currently developing preliminary design plans, but no construction funding has been identified for the K-68 expansion project at this time.
The Miami County K-68 Expansion is also related to the K-68 T-WORKS projects (KA-2373-01, -02, and -03). Work on T-WORKS project KA-2373-02 will be let during December 2021 and improve Somerset Road east on the south side of K-68. T-WORKS project KA-2373-03 will also be let during December 2021 and work will involve building interim improvements, such as turn lanes on K-68 and access roads. It will also include building four lanes between US-69 and Spring Valley Road. Area residents will notice survey crews and other construction activities happening as the T-WORKS projects develop.
