West Lawrence U.S. 40 (6th St.) and K-10 Interchange Improvements

HAPPENING NOW

U.S. 40 between E. 800 and E. 900 roads closed. This work is in preparation for the upcoming improvements to the West Lawrence U.S. 40 (6th Street)/K-10 Interchange.

Traffic impacts:

  • U.S. 40 between E. 800 and E. 900 roads is closed to through traffic.
  • Local access to E. 818 and E. 848 roads is allowed through the barricades placed near E. 800 Road.
  • E. 900 Road north of U.S. 40 is being reconstructed and shifted west. Access to and from E. 900 road on the north will be maintained during the closure.
  • First United Methodist Church has access through the barricades placed near E. 900 Road.
  • E. 800 Road to N. 1500 Road/Bob Billings Parkway remains open.
Beginning Wednesday, Feb. 28, weather permitting, U.S. 40 between E. 800 and E. 900 roads will close.

    Project Description

    KDOT's West Lawrence U.S. 40 (6th St.) and K-10 interchange improvements project will reconfigure the existing interchange into a diverging diamond interchange (DDI). A DDI is an interchange that will allow traffic to cross to the opposite side of the road, making left turns easier and safer when turning onto or off K-10. The interchange will include a sidewalk with barriers down the center of the bridge to provide protection for pedestrians.
