U.S. 50 Expansion to Four-Lane Expressway in Finney and Gray Counties

Page last updated: December 01, 2023

Project Description

The projects are nearing completion of the preliminary design phase, focusing on locations where the highway intersects local streets. The team has continued preliminary design activities, including consideration of comments received at the Nov. 2022 open house. Plans have been updated to enhance safety by managing direct highway access while increasing capacity. All four projects and intersection improvements to enhance safety were shared at a public meeting on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023. Click here for more details.

The four segments have been bundled into two groups for design and construction—a western and eastern group. The western group extend from Aerodrome Rd (Garden City Airport) in Finney County east to 7 Rd in Gray County. The eastern group extend from 7 Rd in Gray County east to Cimarron.

Once the four segments are complete, they will provide a much needed four-lane connection between Garden City and Dodge City. In September 2023, the western group of projects were selected for the IKE Construction Pipeline; construction is anticipated to begin in 2026. The eastern group of projects are currently in the IKE Development Pipeline.
